I would start with the cheaper and easily available add ons first if you plan to see what these machines are capable of. You'll add a lot of functionality for very little money. Older versions of DOS running on a Jr?
Has anyone managed to get any version of DOS starting with a 1 to run on a Jr? I may have a source for a physical copy of PCDOS 1.1 is why I ask.

I found that instead of a warranty registration card, they included a card with an offer to purchase a backup copy of the game for $20, so I need one of those

Have you tried brushing lemon juice on the original hint book? Invisible ink that could be revealed with lemon juice was a popular thing when I was a kid. Finding original marker pens that haven't dried out by now is probably impossible.
