I used Turbo Pascal 3. I did notice the large size for such a small program which really all it does is set the port bits, and it should not take that much space.
You are welcome to try it in assembly. I have attached the listing (zipped because this is the only allowed extension).

Re: Sound bits
This is a simple command line utility I wrote in Turbo Pascal that activates or deactivates Tandy sound on the PCjr. Command format: tsound [s] If no parameter is entered, then Tandy sound is activated through the monitor and the internal speaker is deactivated. The s parameter does the reverse by r...

Re: mTCP Updates (2010-06-21)
That's great Mike! I use your TCP suite quite a bit, especially telnet and ftp and it has definitely expanded the uses of my Jr.

Re: Compact printer
Not really. I have an old box of standard thermal fax paper rolls that work just fine (my old fax machine is long gone...). Unfortunately, the rolls are too thick to allow the complete closure of the cover (the width is fine) and too heavy for the friction pull, so I simply unroll a couple of feet o...

Re: Compact printer
Makes sense. I am glad I can use that printer because it is relatively quiet and has such a small footprint. For listings and such, it does the job beautifully.

Re: Compact printer
Well, it actually worked! Using the DOS MODE command and setting up COM1 to 12,8,N,1,P and then redirecting LPT1 to COM1, I was able to use the printer as LPT1 without difficulty and I apparently still retained full access to the parallel zip drive connected to LPT1. So I went ahead and incorporated...

Re: Compact printer
Wouldn't that affect up my external zip drive then? The drive is connected to LPT1 and the Xircom adapter to LPT2. I suppose I could access the printer from Basic using the OPEN command and access the COM port directly, but I would not be able to list programs that way. Interestingly, the computer d...

Compact printer
Hi. I recently acquired the IBM compact thermal serial printer. The printer passes the self-test as well as the test through the PCjr internal tests as outlined in the Guide to Operations. However, using LPRINT under Basic gives a timeout error. Is Basic expecting a parallel printer, and if it is, h...

Re: Getting off the ground
It comes with a 3.5" driver diskette. This is kind of silly given that the drive is supposed to add that capability when it is not available...

Re: New PCjr fan
I'm like you as I only acquired a PCjr late last year although I have been using PC's starting with the original since 1986. My first computer however was a TI 99/4A in 1981 which I still program BTW :) With the help of Mike here and his site, I was able to beef up my vanilla 128K Jr with a variety ...
