Which piece converts analog CGA to VGA? Or do you even need that in this chain?Trixter wrote:CGA -> splitter cable (so I can hook up a monitor) -> gglabs CGA2RGB -> VGA gender changer -> VGA cable -> VGA to DVI adapter -> Epiphan DVI2PCIe with CGA video defined as a custom VGA mode.

Re: Any reason I'd want another memory expansion card?
Editorial: Even as-is, the unit will upgrade your jr to 256k and really improves the usability of the computer. In my experience it's harder to find & slightly more expensive than a parallel port sidecar. I'd consider this a "win" personally--assuming it's not damaged!

Re: PCjr temporarily freezes cyclically
Turning off bidirectional mode (command line option "NON" to the packet driver) eliminates the problem! Not the most desirable outcome but a finding nonetheless.
jscrow, can you validate this on your system?

PE3-10BT
Mfr 4/16/96

Re: PCjr temporarily freezes cyclically
I'll run the test and report back when I can. I appreciate the attention to the issue and nice (?) to see I'm not alone.
Looking through a decent sample of my network traffic (via Wireshark) when the jr was showing the problem, I didn't see anything that jumped out as unusual.

Re: PCjr temporarily freezes cyclically
Packet driver is "Xircom Pocket Ethernet Adapter III Packet Driver, V.3.08 (940920)" Confirmed that the computer operates normally plugged into my "local" repurposed switch IF the uplink is unplugged; i.e. errant behavior is due to traffic on the main home network segment hitting...

Re: PCjr temporarily freezes cyclically
So just to summarize - load the packet driver, but never use a networking problem. Having the Ethernet cable plugged in will cause irregular pauses? And just to be clear, you did not actually run any networking related code except for loading the packet driver? Yes, exactly. What parameters did you...

Re: PCjr temporarily freezes cyclically
I get that (mostly, for a guy who doesn't work at the driver-and-below layers). I have the packet driver in my autoexec; guess I anticipated doing more networking on the jr. Regardless, it's always been loaded when I've used the jr over the last couple of years, but was not a problem until now. To f...

Re: PCjr temporarily freezes cyclically
Ding ding ding ding, we have a winner. It was the Xircom Ethernet adapter, and/or my ancient wifi router (configured as a switch) that it is plugged into. I can make the behavior come and go by plugging and unplugging the Ethernet cable. I have working Internet access through the router but the paus...
