Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

I think most people would rather get a kit with everything from one place (I know I do). If you want 20 connectors to make that many kits, that's fine with me. I just wanted to get the ball rolling on another run of boards. Selling you 20 only leaves 5 for the others who expressed an interest in sid...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

The sidecar connectors have landed! I have 25 pairs of genuine Amphenol parts. The final cost with inbound shipping is $12.85 per pair. I know some of you expressed an interest in buying some. I'd like to make sure we have enough to make a short run of the jrIDE boards. What is the next step? Is it ...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

I have 25 sets of sidecar connectors on order that should be here (I'm told) in 2-3 weeks. They did send samples of each, so I'm encouraged. My hope is that we can get enough parts together for some more JRide boards. Can we still get the PTH boards made in a small quantity for a reasonable price? I...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

It took a while, but I finally do have samples of each of the PC jr sidecar connectors. Here's a picture of them: PCjrSidecarConn.jpg The price is $10.12 for the connector and $1.71 for the shroud, plus shipping. The quoted price is for quantity 25. Does this still sound like a good number? Is these...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

Back on the hunt for sidecar connectors, I sent out an RFQ from a different service. (HoBid - sounds like I'm looking for ... uh, never mind.) Anyway, two suppliers came back with prices of about $10.75 for the two parts. But, neither could furnish samples so I could be sure they are the correct par...

Re: Odd disk drive error

His response was a forehead-smacking revelation: "Why didn't you just turn the belt inside out?" 8-O (The inside of the belt was smooth but the outside was still rough; turning it inside out would likely have worked.) Yeah, but if the belt is a bit loose, the other side will glaze and eve...

Re: Odd disk drive error

OK, I'll keep the belt on the 'parts' drive for future emergencies. I also did some looking, and this appears that it might be a replacement part: http://www.ceitron.com/cart/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=FS5.8&search_in_description=1&osCsid=f965811da36b3925431a2a20be8ad083&x=0&...

Re: Odd disk drive error

Is there any way to fix a partially slipping belt? Is there any way to "tighten" it, or make the spindle easier to turn? (I tried oil on a Qume drive once, it didn't go too well; there's no way to get the oil in without a mess and without taking the drive apart). All the Qume drive mainte...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

Hopefully that hit on the connectors turns up good. I tried to purchase from the same people that Alan got the initial batch from. After charging my card for close to $300 they did nothing, and when I finally called to ask what was going on a month later they said they could not find the parts. Not...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

Oh, good! the board is back up! I got a hit on the sidecar connectors. Talking to the rep, it seems that they have a little over 4000 of both pieces. He is going to mail me a sample on Monday to make sure it is the right part. Now, if only I had a 3D printer, we could make our own sidecar housings! ...
