Re: Sold a jr today :-)

Because he misunderstood what he was recreating. I'll bet it was a "small" PC on the desk, like a Vic-20 or something which he mistook as "jr". It would definitely not be a VIC-20, which was released in 1981. Maybe an original TI-99/4 or an Atari 400 perhaps? Quite remarkable fo...

Re: Mouse Question

Keep the modem in and you should not need to give any parameters to Cutemouse. So Cutemouse knows the mouse is in COM 2 then? If it is a Microsoft compatible mouse, then it should find it. If not, try the mouse in another DOS system and see how Cutemouse detects it. You could try the COM2 parameter.

PROM Dumps

I was looking through the PCjr. schematics and wanted to find out if there were any custom chips on the system board other than the Video Gate Array at ZM36. I found no others after making a list of the 80 integrated circuits on the system board, but I did find a pair of proms at ZM52 (256x8) and ZM...

Re: Convert a .IMG or .360 to files using dosbox?

The files are standard disk images, but they are typically booters, so they don't have a file system that can be read by DOS. However, what you can do is to copy the disk image file over to your PCjr. and use a program called dskimage to recreate the floppy image on the PCjr.

Re: Mouse Question

Well I tried the mouse with Wasteland, but it doesn't seem to work. The mouse icon is there but I can't get it to move. I'm using the CuteMouse driver at COM 1/IRQ 3 so I'm not sure what's wrong. It might just be that the serial mouse I picked up isn't compatible with the PCjr. Either that or somet...

Re: Mouse Question

Not in the traditional way, because using Upper Memory Blocks is a function of the 386's memory mapping capabilities. Some EMS cards may have been able to provide hardware UMBs which you could use to load device drivers, but such cards for the PCjr. would be extremely rare. I believe that if you hav...

Re: Keyboard Squeak

If I remember right, there is no metal retaining bar giving the spacebar the extra spring to return to its natural position. Instead, there are some plastic bits that do the same thing. Silicone lubricant should help you out here.

Re: NEC V20 Question

Some games intentionally run with shorter timing loops when they detect a PCjr. like Lode Runner. They think the system has 128KB and thus is slower than a PC, hence they speed the game up for a jr. Lode Runner is a good example of a game that does this. With the V20, you have speed up the system a ...
