Any reason I'd want another memory expansion card?
Last month I ordered a new old parallel port sidecar from eBay. I already had one from the 1980s on my PCjr, but I thought it'd be handy to have another one that I could try the bidirectional mod on and use for various purposes. I guess I got a dodgy seller, because after placing the order I didn't ...

Re: Easy ways to transfer data in and out of the PCjr?
My preferred method is a Xircom parallel-port ethernet adapter. As long as your mass storage device doesn't also need parallel (mine is a jrIDE), you can run mTCP's FTPSRV and just feed it files until done. I agree, ethernet and ftp would be slick. I'm looking around for a Xircom PE3-10BT -- so far...

Re: It works!
It definitely sounds like it. I contacted alanh to get onto his notification list for the next time he gets some together.Brutman wrote:Life begins at 256K, and life is fun with a jrIDE and 736K.

Re: It works!
I use a C128DAC and Gonbes 8220 to get to a 4:3 aspect ratio monitor I bought from Goodwill. You do need the PCjr to 9 pin connector to use this, but it gives me acceptable results. Thanks. I see the C128DAC and Gonbes 8200 and 8220 online, but am not quickly finding a place to buy a PCjr to 9-pin ...

Re: It works!
Thanks to KenG's generous offer to mail the drivers on disk, I now have a working Micro Solutions Backpack 3.5" drive on my PCjr. Thanks, Ken! I've got 40 or 50 5.25" DSDD disks from the mid 1980s to early 1990s, and will have to work my way through them. So far I've checked about 10, and ...

Examples of benefits from bi-directional parallel port mod?
After seeing references to the modification of the parallel port sidecar to make it bi-directional, I found Mike's page here: https://www.brutman.com/PCjr/parallel_port.html which gives a nice overview of the issue and instructions of how to do the mod (which seems very simple). I'm not entirely cle...

Re: Easy ways to transfer data in and out of the PCjr?
Interesting, the PT-65B looks like a great option. I noticed in unpacking my PCjr that I seem to have the original power supply, but for some reason I removed it from whatever case it came in and put it in an aluminum project box. No idea 30+ years later why I might have done that. Meanwhile, I foun...

Re: Easy ways to transfer data in and out of the PCjr?
Chuck, looks great! A very complete system that seems like it would give you a lot of flexibility. As mentioned, I'm hoping to install a jrIDE if any are available at this point. What 3D printer and CAD are you using? I have a Prusa kit about 2/3 built, and have been working on learning Fusion 360. ...
