Re: The “New” Print Shop Software - Crashes on PCjr
I remember we had a version of The Print Shop but I'm not sure if it was the original or the "New" version when we had our Jr and it worked fine. Our Jr was a Racore upgraded version so if it was the "New" version we might have run it with the PCJr/PC switch in PC compatible mode...

Re: PCjr Drive Calibration?
Is it not reading disks at all or is it not reading disks from other drives? I have had drives go out of alignment where they cant read disks from other drives but can read disks that are formatted on them and read them just back fine. If you need a PDF maintenance manual on the Qumetrak 142 I found...

Re: Conductive paint curiosities
I just saw a drive like that sell on ebay 12 days ago.... I was confused because I had never seen a qumetrak 142 with that type of handle and face plate.Again like the prototype, this has a generic QumeTrak 142 diskette drive with no IBM logo and a different handle style.

Re: Conductive paint curiosities
Mike’s story about the early, expensive paint made with silver reminded me of this passage from Blue Magic : Although he was not directly involved with the early development of the machine, Dan Wilkie still vividly remembers what happened when he volunteered to help solve a manufacturing problem wi...

Re: What's needed to get this running?
I was watching that auction curious if that was a 512KB unit or the 640KB one. I wanted to message the seller for a pic with the top cover off so I could tell but was afraid I might end up with my 3rd Racore unit so best to not ask questions. I would think a pico ATX should supply enough power for b...

Re: Using PCJr Diskette Drive in other machines
The face plates on Qume142 are a bit smaller than normal drives. Qume142 are 41.5 mm tall and 145.5mm long Normal drives like Alps, Y-E Data or TEAC are 43.0 mm tall and 148.5mm long Not a big deal but you end up with a bit more of a gap around the face plates to drive bay openings when putting in s...

Re: Issue with two different PCjrs - looking for troublesh h
This is my first post on here, but I recently got a batch of 8 PCJrs. 6 of them exhibited the issue discussed in this thread. The tantalum capacitors next to the <olex connector on the 5.25" drive were shorted across the 12V line, simply replacing them with some electrolytic 4.7uF 50V capacito...

Re: Issue with two different PCjrs - looking for troublesh h
[*] You got lucky. I’ve bought two PCjrs on eBay. One happened to have an Alps drive in perfect working order (and the previous owner had used it recently). The other Jr had a Qume drive that couldn’t spin a diskette at all until I lubed the drive thoroughly. Presumably the previous owner had not u...
