Both of your drives are by Qume, and I’ve found that these often need mechanical help as well. The clean-the-heads-and-rails routine is the least of it. I hope you figure out the problem, I have 2 JRs with JRCaptains and they dont suffer from this problem and so I guess I'm no help.

Yep - Rapport == Racore == Quadram. All of those expansion chassis are the same maker. I think that Rapport changed their name or was bought by Racore. If your other PCJr is going to use a pico power supply you can just run a 5 volt line and power your Tecmar Jr Captain off that. Well the board I have that I got with no socketable chips and was giving me 2 beep error seems to be doing just fine. I got no idea why but it decided to start working perfectly (knock on wood) for the last day or so.... Hope you have some luck with that board and congrats on what sounds like a cool...
