Recommended DOS version
Which version of DOS should I attempt to track down to use with my jr? I currently have 2.1. Is there any advantage to going to a later version? Also, wherea are the patches that are mentioned for making any later than 3.3. work with the jr? I have 640k and I'm looking at getting one of the parallel...

5 1/4 HD Drive on system
Okay, this is probably a dumb question, but it's been a long time so I've forgotten how my old system used to work. I put my HD 5 1/4" drive onto my PCjr (PC Enterprises backpack drive through parallel port 2), and I have the following questions/problems: 1) the original TEAC HD driv just drive...

Re: Dug our my jr
The boot loader code in DOS is not terribly robust. If it is trying to boot DOS and has a read error while loading DOS from disk the machine will punt and go to Cassette BASIC. It's too early in the boot process to get 'Disk error reading Drive A, retry, abort, ignore' or whatever the specific mess...

Re: Dug our my jr
*sigh* Okay, my machine is back to not working again. :( I was in the process of putting in the new floppy drive permanently into the system (instead of sitting on top of the system for testing). And yes I had an anti-static wrist strap on. I also put on the PC Enterprises 512kB memory sidecar and ...

Re: Dug our my jr
Woot, got it working!
Oddly enough, apparently it didn't like one of my AA batteries...The ones I had put in it were new, but I tried 4 other new ones anyway all viola...

Development Environments (Was:Starting a PCjr coding project
Does anyone have any documents or webpages that list what you need to setup a development environment for the PCjr? The idea of writing "hello world" for my PCjr is strangely appealing
.
All I ever did was write programs in BASIC, hehe.

Commodore 1541 drive
Anyone need an old Commodore 1541 drive? I have one laying around from a LONG time ago that I had originally intended to hookup to my PC for use with C64 emulators, but I never got around to it and it's just collecting dust.
I don't imagine that anything in that drive is compatible with my jr? hehe.

Re: 25th Anniversary!
My goal is to get everything back up and running again the way it was when I first played around with it.
Maybe play some wings of fury or Thexder too. Kings Quest if I can make a new disk, my old one is not readable anymore.
