Has anyone ever seen a MESA 286 jr speed up card

Postby joseph » Wed Oct 22, 2008 7:54 pm

The MESA 286 jr was a speed up card made for the PCjr.
It containted at 286 processor running at 12 Mhz.
It was marketed by Ed Strauss of ES Quality Products in Reno.

Part of the technical specs were as follows:

"0 wait-state read N write cycles,
achieved by a fully ppelned design, writeback controller
and asynchronous handshaking latches. The rest is due to
the 16Kb self-flushing static ram cache that is software con
trolled"

I have never seen one, have you?

Hi Joseph,

I have seen the advertisements but I have never seen or heard of one in the wild. ES Quality Products did exist - they did the HotShot board, but I've never seen a MESA 286jr.

It would have been very hard to implement based on the picture in the advertisement. An external box with a ribbon cable is not a great way to maintain signal integrity. :-)
