Not to drag the original topic off too far, I do agree that a machine should know how much disk space is free, but in a world of 8.4gb of space on a PCjr, if you're that close to running out of space, you're trying too hard. :)

I think an ideal situation would be to break out of the counting loop once at least >10mb was discovered free. I did just pull that number of of my ass, but the idea is that if you have >10mb (again, on a PCjr, that's plenty to do any kind of work) then you have "enough" space to do anything. Since it appears DOS is periodically refreshing the count, if you were truly starting to run out of space, then the counting loop would run longer. This is all back of the napkin talk from me, since i have absolutely no technical knowledge at this time on how/what it is actually doing, so this idea may be stupid once the problem is better understood. Just spitballing ideas here.

Shoot- no edit button on a post.
To get this back on topic, I also wanted to say that there doesn't seem to be any real need to run DOS 6.22 on a PCjr. I takes up more memory to run it, and you don't get a lot of features for it, other than some additional confirmation messages. My DOS ninja skills are waning as I age, but I think dos 6.22 added a couple commands like Move and deltree. There are dos 5.0 compatible replacements for those if you wanted that functionality.
