The mouse probably must support the Microsoft mouse interface for transmitting data packets to the serial port. The Microsoft Booster mouse is a bus mouse, so it will not work. So to use a Compact Printer, you need a serial switchbox. and the appropriate pin converters (BERG to D-Shell for the system) (D-Shell to BERG for the printer). I suppose you could simply swap the mouse and printer connectors directly from the port, but this is obviously not advisable due to the stress placed on the pins.

Colorpaint was originally designed for use with mice that connected via sidecar. So it was of course possible to have mouse + compact printer connected at the same time.

I think the problem may be an conflict between the PCjr. BIOS and the ColorPaint program.

Does ColorPaint work with a Microsoft Booster sidecar mouse? I

Yes, that sentence does seem nonsensical. I supposed it should be replaced with something like "I guess that ColorPaint, as put on the disk, is incompatible with a real PCjr. in a way DOSBox hasn't emulated yet."

DOSBox's emulation of the PCjr. has improved quite a bit in the SVN, Venetian Blinds work with games only supporting Tandy.

Not to drag my thread offtopic, but has anyone used MESS to emulate a PCjr?
DOSBox emulation isn't accurate enough, and thus isn't going to help me debug why colorpaint won't load off floppy, but I just remembered that MESS might be able to help.

I returned my PCjr. to a pure, Tandy-modless, state and the Scubaventure problem went away. It also seemed to eliminate a garbage line (which did not affect gameplay) in Mouser.

So is there a fix for the incompatibility with the Tandy mod? Then again it's not like Mouser or Scubaventure are really worth playing anyway...

Well, there's the two educational titles, Facemaker and Fraction Fever. My PCjr is set up this weekend; I'll email you.
