Microsoft PCjr Booster Pinout

Post by ZiggyTheHamster »

I'm hoping that maybe someone has a copy of the manual to this thing, which probably has a pinout inside it. Mini-DIN style bus mice are super common on eBay, but of course our Microsoft Booster sidecar uses a DB9 connector. As best as I can tell, Microsoft only used the DB9-style bus mouse port on this device. This sucks, because DB9 mice are basically always serial mice... and that's not what I'm looking for :). It would be trivial to wire up an adapter to make a Mini-DIN bus mouse plug into my Microsoft Booster, but I can't do that without a pinout. I could probably derive the pinout if I had an actual mouse, but since I don't, I'm hoping someone here has something useful for me.

I can probably pin it out or figure it out for you at some point, but not soon. (I'm in Australia this week for work.)

I've not seen any PCjx's in the wild yet ...

I'm not convinced that the JX exists outside of marketing :).

I've been trolling eBay for compatible mice but it's the same two sellers, and one won't take more photos for me though did offer me $50 (still too much for not being 100% sure it's a bus mouse).

Ouch - my bad. I'm traveling for work this week but I should be able to get to this on the weekend.

I don't know if the Booster docs has a pinout. At worst case it's the same as all of the other Microsoft bus mice with that connector.

This one should be the correct mouse (it's listed as serial, but it's identical to my Booster mouse): https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Rare-M ... SwTm9dPJeQ

I could swear that I'd found a pinout for it online before, but I'm struggling to locate it now. If you'd rather have a pinout than buy one I can try taking mine apart to see if I can figure it out.

Actually it's all labeled and color coded inside so deriving the pinout was easy.

1 - Not Connected
2 - XA
3 - XB
4 - YA
5 - YB
6 - Button 1
7 - Not Connected
8 - Button 2
9 - Common

Oh, well knowing that it's labeled, I feel silly for not cracking mine open. Thanks for looking for me :). I was watching that mouse, but the seller seemed shady. Didn't respond to messages.
