Oh yeah, I'd be interested as well. Those pins bend so easily.

Regardless, I'd love to find a technique for repairing the pins. The upper level pins are somewhat easy to replace, as you have access to them on the motherboard side. The bottom row looks to be impossible to replace without undoing the entire connector.

Hey guys I am Still around..

see the attached for repairing broken pins..
You will need some straight pins to do the repair... ( see attached pins.jbg )

ONE SIDE NOTE: you may need to trim the plastic on each side of the backside if needed to get at the inside ( bottom row ) pins
but a good set of 'small' side cutters with a long nose works fine......

I don't get out much any more with work and life, but hoping to retire next year , if my son and our business allows :)
If you want to get a hold of me just PM me as I do get notifications from Mikes site and do try to answer....
also (if Mike allows) my forum www.pcjribm.com is where I try to put all the technical items I have done as well as others
and I also monitor that site (somewhat every day) . Not to compete with Mikes site, but rather offer a Technical how-to
area with pics and data for easy searching....

anyway.. hope this helps
Chuck

Thanks, Chuck,

That should be helpful. Another related question, I want to remove the motherboard from the case and it doesn't look obvious as to how, as there seems to be several plastic tabs still holding the motherboard down and I didn't want to try moving it in case they broke.

Thanks, Steve

Well, I'm glad to be wrong. I'm still staying "Welcome back" because your absence was noticed, even if you did not intend it to be so.

There is no one right way to do things, but I was a little concerned about another nearly identical web forum splitting the user base. We have a big enough problem with the Facebook walled garden. If we fracture then we lose the critical mass that makes things work.

The broken plastic tabs are a chronic issue with the now older Jrs.
I have not taken out a motherboard and nothad on or two break.. itdoes not hurt anything if they are missing, but I get not wanting to
damage these relics for sure...

Just remove all the screws including the oneonthe CART holder up front and try your best going slow.
I found the best way to 'break' then is with your fingers pushing, experience, but I try to use a small screwdriver that I can press against
the MB and gently slowly walk it back off the edge of the MB, while lifting that portion of the MB to release it....

Let me know how your Jr holds up....

Mike: I do not think my site is splitting, as I make sure the folks know your site is the knowledge bible...
I just needed a place to put the technology/ pictures, indepth items for the user- designed add-ons.

I will mke more effort to get over here, not only when a thread summons me :)

Yup, the CART screw is important (didn't see that the first time around). So five screws altogether. So I was able to remove the motherboard but one of the tabs was very stiff and the other was loose and may have a hairline fracture but I guess there not critical.

Also, on closer inspection, I noticed that the plastic spacer between the two joystick ports and the one between the serial port and display port were also missing/snapped off. Maybe I'll 3D print/glue a couple of peices to minimize the chance of breaking the pins in the future.

Thanks, Steve

3D printing is great, so handy.... I use it alot here at work..

I think there are covers that fit ofer the back of the JR ports, they are add-ons, dont have them but have seen them on ebay (rare)
and other pictures..

Take pictures (up close) of your pin repair and, post so we can see :)

Here's a link to the covers that fit the JR on eBay. I bought a set a while back and am a fan! Note, I have no affiliation with the seller, I just have seen them recently and they aren't expensive.

If the URL goes bad, it can be found by searching for "PCjr Plastic Connector Enclosures", or you may have to just search "pcjr" and look through the whole list.

Jason, those brackets look great and are reasonably priced. However, I did create a simple 3D model myself for the JJLKLPT connector.

https://www.tinkercad.com/things/cYoawmd2k46

I'll probably create something similar for the display/serial connectors.

Note, I could only test the joystick ports. My Racore keyboard connector doesn't work as it straddles both the KB and LP connectors. I guess I could cut/remove the bracket in-between.
