Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

Can't you extend the jrIDE IDE connector using a short cable enough to free the hole?

Re: Power Expansion Sidecar, how to use?

Ouch, so seems pretty useless for me. Having two power bricks around the Jr is not really my cup of tea :( . I need to adapt a picoPSU internally right now.

Thanks for illustrating me jmetal88!

Power Expansion Sidecar, how to use?

I've purchased a pair of sidecars from a friend and one of them is the power attachment. I'm not sure about how it works; once attached, do I need two power bricks to power both sidecar and internal power card at the same time?, only the expansion needs a power brick?, if so, can I unplug the intern...

Re: XT-IDE on PCjr

There was one other snafu: I have a DOS 5.0 disk, with the PCjr patch applied to the boot sector. I boot to this disk, fdisk the DOM and then format /s it. The DOM would not boot. I could see it blip 1 time on the LEDs and then hang. Next thing I did was fdisk /MBR the drive, and after attempting t...

Re: jr-IDE weird problem

Yep, indeed, it's correct. It turns out that I simply needed a bootdisk. The original IBM-DOS 5.0 installation disk didn't work for me. Patching the DOS 5.0 boot disk was a breeze. About the RAM disk, is it auto-magically used by some part of the DOS or jrconfig?, if it's really been used and it can...

Re: jr-IDE weird problem

Yep, mission accomplished!. I've installed IBM-DOS 5.0 into a 64Mb CF card. First I created a plain bootdisk using a virtual installation of IBM-DOS using VMware, then patched it and added to the disk the needed tools like FORMAT, FDISK OR DEBUG. Once the PCjr booted, I created a 8MB primary DOS par...

Re: jr-IDE weird problem

Mmmm, tried to patch the IBM DOS 5.0 without success. To clarify things, do I need an IBM DOS 5.0 english version boot disk or I can patch the installation disk 1?. I've patched the later (see session screenshot below) and all looks more or less fine; but the machine doesn't boots at all. http://ima...

Re: jr-IDE weird problem

Hehe, no problem, I guessed it right then. I'll keep testing the IDe-CF adapter, it's a two CF slots model and maybe I'm just simply using the wrong one to plug the CF card...

Re: jr-IDE weird problem

I can live with it for now, I want to setup first a working system before getting into flashing BIOS and so... Now, I'm facing a stupid problem, where's IDE connector's pin 1 suposedly located?. I can see a mark in the board (look this drawing ) that I suposse is the notch of the connector. Given th...

Re: jr-IDE weird problem

Yup, that's it. The PCjr boots from floppy after 4-5 seconds. Thanks! I've used a PC-DOS 2.1 boot disk without flaws. A MS-DOS 5.0 boot disk freezes the machine, I suposse that I'll need to patch the MS-DOS 5.0 to overcome the PCjr incompatibility, isn't it?- About the IDE; for now, I've plans to pl...
