Re: Hello from canada
Hello Ronald, Welcome. Like you, the IBM PCjr was my introduction to computing. I credit the PCjr, and overcoming it's limitations, with teaching me a lot more about computers than getting a more "Ready to Run" computer would have. Parts are readily available and the modular nature of the ...

Re: DOS FTP Server testing (again)
Connected to both servers succesfully. Once with an ipad with Safari and once with IE9 in Window 7. On the Brutman server, I was able to open and download files with IE9 in Windows 7. I was able to open files (jpg and txt) with Safari on the ipad. On the Vorticon server, I downloaded jrconfig.nrd wi...

Floppy Emulator
Has anyone tried a floppy emulator with the PCjr? The were designed to replace 3.5" floppy drives in loom machine and keyboards that originally used floppy drives. They either come in 720K versions or have jumpers to set tham as 720K drives. The way they work is you install the emulator in the ...

Re: Dead Parallel Port on Rapport
Finally got to try out the parallel network adapter and mTCP, atleast the telnet functions. It worked flawlessly. Interestingly, the packet driver reported that I had a bi-directional parallel port. I bought the parallel port used so anything was possible. Sadly, the program to test for a bi-directi...

Re: pcjr games
I looked at the manual for jrConfig and it supports the Tecmar memory management as well as the Tecmar clock functions. You shouldn't require any special software for the parallel port as LPT1. What other functions does the Tecmar Captain/Cadet have? There appear to be Windows programs that let you ...

Re: pcjr games
Do you have jrConfig in your config.sys? The POST will count all the memory but it will not be usable unless you run a program like jrconfig. It should be able to replace the original Tecmar software atleast af ar as memory is concerned. It is available in the downloads section.

Re: pcjr games
What are the specs on you PCjr, memory and drives specifically? The DOS game archives is a good source of information on available games. They have copies of freeware and shareware games and the places to buy other DOS games such as gog.com http://www.dosgamesarchive.com/category/platform/ GOG.COM s...

Dead Parallel Port on Rapport
In one of those cases of "if life gives you lemons, make lemon-aid", it appears that the parallel port on my Rapport Drive II is dead. I kind of suspected it when a couple of the benchmarks reported I didn't have a parallel port. I confirmed it today when trying to install a parallel netwo...

Re: jrIDE installation experience
The 32 MB DOM came yesterday. It is generic unit that was shipped from Hong Kong. It cost $12 with free shipping. I regret not getting the 256 MB one for $17 and then I would have set up a couple extended partitions although I may never fill up the 32 MB. I will get a bigger one when I get the other...

Re: Prodigy Online
I also had an account with BIX in the early 1990's. I joined BIX in 1991 and kept it for a few years. I think I got rid of BIX in 1994 when the company I worked at closed and I had to make some tough financial decisions. It was a completely different experience. It was more of a professional level c...
