Re: GEM or CP/M on a Jr?

Well, IBM did sell CP/M-86 for the original IBM PC. Would that not work?

Re: PCjr running with MCL86

If you have a couple joysticks, you can enter the mode with the appropriate button presses (although I didn't bother to document what those were!). It will spit post codes out the serial port at 9600bps, 7O2. You have to use a terminal program or something else suitable to display the codes as they ...

Re: 3.5" floppy drives

Elsewhere on this site Mike mentions using a 1.44MB drive in a PCjr using 720 diskettes and a device driver. I have a PCjr with a Quadram Drive Two on it. I would like to try this, but would need something to convert the 34 pin card edge connector on the cable to a 34 pin connector for the 1.44MB d...

Re: What are the extra hardware pieces...

I asked the seller to provide additional pictures of the "thing". The only other thing that can be determined from the additional pictures is that it has an embossed "IBM" on the cover. I suspect it's a SCSI terminator that was thrown in by accident.

Re: Byte March 1984

True. The ability to not use standard PC peripherals was a major blunder; if they had used normal connectors, the PCjr might have been taken more seriously. My guess with the connectors is that they wanted to save space and money; the entire connector area is one large block. A secondary concern mi...

Re: Byte March 1984

The action is better than the "pro" keyboard, but the smaller keys take a few hours to get used to. The design of the keyboard for full-keyboard overlays was absolutely appropriate for a home user. IBM was very forward thinking with the PCjr (said unapologetically as a PCjr enthusiast, of...

Re: Byte March 1984

Sounds good. I'll have to check it out. After having used the much maligned keyboard I feel like a lot of the hatred of it is misplaced. It doesn't have terrible action and the placement of the keys is good. I think in practice what was the real problem with it is that the keycaps themselves are not...

Re: Visi ON PCjr Mouse

Very nice find!

On a related note, I'm curious if there were ever any of the mouse systems mice that were sold with the PCjr serial connector on them, or if you were required to use the adapter?
