Re: Melted Disks?
It should be reasonably easy to replace the fan with a much much quieter one that meets the CFM requirements of the original. It's certainly one of the louder case fans I've seen.

Re: Cartridge games on floppy!
I was wondering about Colorpaint as well... is there a floppy based version already?

Re: Floppy Disk Controller DMA?
Some of the Racore/Rapport expansion units had DMA and a replacement floppy controller. I've never seen it as a stand-alone sidecar or option though. It's really not needed except that it might make some disk I/O during UART activity possible. We still have the problem of the keyboard using NMI ins...

Floppy Disk Controller DMA?
Did anyone back in the day make an external DMA controller attachment? From the tech reference, it appears that the FDC and the sidecar connector were designed to allow for this provision.

Re: IBM PCjr. Modem - What can I do with it?
Back in the day, full/half duplex were common vernacular and were used interchangeably with local echo on/off, but Mike is right: the technical term means that the modem can send/receive data at the same time in full duplex and not in half. I have seen a couple of terminal programs refer to full/hal...

Re: IBM PCjr. Modem - What can I do with it?
I should not though that the ^ thing will probably only work where you're entering the modem unit string and dialing prefix, not on the normal terminal screen.

Re: IBM PCjr. Modem - What can I do with it?
I believe in procomm that control codes are prefixed by ^, so a carriage return is ^M. Try ^N for your escape code too.

Re: IBM PCjr. Modem - What can I do with it?
So I am trying to use ProComm 2.4.3, and it is obviously designed for a Hayes modem. I go to the setup screen and change the Modem options as follows : Initialize - format 4 (should set modem to 8-N-1 operation) Dial command - dial w Hangup - hangup When I try to dial a number, I set the baud and o...

Re: IBM PCjr. Modem - What can I do with it?
I have used 300bps over a cell phone call before, so I imagine if you're using any properly classified/shaped VoIP service through a carrier class network then it should be more than adequate for 300 bps. I suppose it's also possible that whatever system's modem you are connecting to has crappy supp...

Re: IBM PCjr. Modem - What can I do with it?
Edit 4 : I set the data rate to 8-bit, but at 8-bit the modem cannot use parity. This causes garbage characters to show up on the status screen where the program should echo what the modem is doing. It still connected to the Prison Board BBS, but the BBS still complained of the minimum rate and dis...
