Re: PS/2 to PCjr Keyboard Converter - Schematic and Source

Hooray, congrats on landing the job! Here's my stupid question: will the code run on a 16F88 or will it only run on the 12F617 (yeah, I know the pinouts are different). The software I finally located for my PIC programmer will program a 16F88, but not a 12F617. I'd like to try the latest code withou...

Re: Looking for IBM Assembler for PCjr

For anybody else interested in ASM programming, "Assembly Language for x86 Processors" by Kip Irvine is a great textbook. Earlier versions used to include a copy of Microsoft MASM 6.11 which could be patched up to 6.14 to get rid of some nasty bugs. While that doesn't run on a PCjr, I thi...

Re: PS/2 to PCjr Keyboard Converter - Schematic and Source

Good luck with the job! The first job out of school is kind of exciting. A thought for the future if you do another run of boards - a couple mounting holes in the board would be handy. Looks like there is space. I plan to put mine in a small plastic box and think I've found a couple likely spots to ...

Ah, exactly! I did have the Num Lock on. I was about to drag out another jr to see if it was only this machine, but you fixed it before I could do that. You da man!

Re: PS/2 to PCjr Keyboard Converter - Schematic and Source

Found some oddball behavior today. After trying out a Compaq, a couple different IBM, and a MaxiSwitch PS/2 keyboard, I saw that they all exhibit the same thing: the shifted 1-0 on the top row of keys (below the function keys) do not emit the symbols on the keys or much of anything. The othe...

Re: PS/2 to PCjr Keyboard Converter - Schematic and Source

Mine arrived today in the mail. IT WORKS GREAT!!!! Only had it plugged in for a few minutes, but discovered the most pleasant thing: I no longer have to twist my fingers and hold my mouth to the left to get a backslant! Typing a long path to a file on the jrIDE is no longer an exercise in screaming ...

Re: PS/2 to PCjr Keyboard Converter - Schematic and Source

I'm kind of amazed that you were able to source the connector and shroud! Somebody probably has a $175 crimping tool that will make it look very pretty, but is it really necessary? Probably not. Heck, you could probably make a few bucks selling replacement PC Jr keyboard cables or just the connector...

Re: PS/2 to PCjr Keyboard Converter - Schematic and Source

Bad news is that even with the external oscillator, the PCjr is still not receiving the occasional keystroke correctly. Are these chips re-programmable? If so, it won't be a problem to implement code fixes. Even if you have to replace a $2-3 chip for an upgrade - not a big deal. MikeModified has se...

I agree with Mike - I'd buy one too. Eventually, it would be fun to make my own.

This is like the AT/PS2 to XT adapters I bought from hargle - there is no end to their usefulness.

Doesn't look terrible. Nothing like seeing it actually work! That's very cool!
