Re: PS/2 -> PCjr keyboard conversion
Other chips to consider would be Arduino and Picaxe. I'm not really a hardware guy either, but dabble a bit. The arduino has a free programming environment and lots of inexpensive clones out there. Code to decode the PS/2 keyboard is readily available. http://www.vintage-computer.com/vcforum/showth...

Re: Networking with an older computer
I don't know about the Adam. I asked him about a TRS-80 MIII or M4, he said no because only the MI outputs a memory control signals (for the VGA) and it depends on specific bytes in ROM for the autoboot. What intrigues me most, vis-à-vis PCjr's, is the Ethernet module: a WIZ830MJ (datasheet: http://...

Networking with an older computer
Just for fun: http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee171/4-BarrelMike/Tandy%20stuff/Network01_zps62fd5961.jpg PCjr FTP connection to the (rudimentary) FTP server on my Mise http://home.comcast.net/~bartlett.p/MISE/index.html -equipped TRS-80 Model I in the background. http://i233.photobucket.com/album...

Re: I've killed my jride
Update: I got the new ide adapter and it didn't work. I put everything aside until I had some time to play with it. After I ended up with the Racore unit, I got to wondering if the jride would work with the two-drive unit if I pulled the expansion memory board out of it. Eventually, I did and it doe...

Re: I've killed my jride
We can dig a bit more with software; boot it to a floppy disk and I can give you some instructions to poke around in debug to see if we can poke a register or two. Hey mike brutman, what's the base address for the IO ports for the HDD we're using on the IDEjr? Sounds good! Appreciate all the help. ...

Re: I've killed my jride
jmetal88: Thanks, that makes sense. I'll make sure that it's right. Hargle: Are we assuming that since it was working correctly that I assembled it correctly? Late last evening, I plugged the ide adapter into an xtide and it wasn't recognized (which may not mean anything). I've ordered a new one any...

Re: I've killed my jride
DQ#1 :D Yep, on first, on second, on simultaneously. DQ#2 RTC is currently off, off, off (no IRQ selected I guess) which were it was when I first turned the jride on and it worked  so it's still there (although I've tried the other settings); ROM is currently set for C800. I've tried the other ...

Re: I've killed my jride
just to summarize this, please correct me if I'm wrong on any point: 1) you've tested the same IDEjr on 2 machines. 2) you've tested multiple working IDE drives- drives that work with the XTIDE and at least one that previously worked on the IDEjr. 3) all other components of the IDEjr (except the oc...

Re: I've killed my jride
POST is normal and reliable. The jride BIOS output is as it always was except for the Drive 0:not installed. All pins on both jr's are straight and of correct height. Once again, using a bright light and magnifying glass, I made a slow inspection of each solder joint. I found no bridges or cold join...

Re: I've killed my jride
Alan: Ah! I tried to put in all pertinent info and forgot: every reported test, except the known-good-to-xtide HD test, were conducted on two Jr's with the same results. POST, in every observation, was good. One time, out of 50?, jride (I think) gave me an "ERRORH"; a three-fingered salute...
