Any trick to removing floppy drive without breaking anything

Postby Corey986 » Wed Mar 04, 2015 6:47 am

If I'm reading things correctly to get access to the CPU to install my V20 chip I need to remove the floppy which has those silly snap in Tabs on the bottom. Any trick to "popping" them and not breaking anything?

Thanks,
Corey

I don't know of any trick, unfortunately. I just grab the back of the drive and yank it upwards while trying to keep the rest of the computer in place. In the two that I've had so far, I've never broken anything that way, although I have broken one set of tabs on the cover that goes over the outer sidecar while yanking it out of place (I actually fixed that by gluing an eraser from a BIC mechanical pencil to the spot where the tabs broke, though).

I turn the system unit upside down, and use a thin object (like the eraser end of a pencil) to push, slowly and with even pressure, the tabs through. If you're worried about drive damage as the last tab pops out and it falls from the case, put a cloth under it as a cushion when you turn it over.
You're all insane and trying to steal my magic bag!
