PCjr Joystick to Tandy CoCo

Postby Tempest » Fri May 19, 2017 6:41 am

I'm thinking about taking one of my spare PCjr joysticks and converting it to work on my CoCo. The joysticks for both systems are exactly the same, just with different plugs. I found pinouts for each system (the CoCo uses a 6 pin DIN) but on the PCjr side I see that B3 and B4 on the BERG connector are simply labeled 'Switch'. Does anyone know which is button one (top button) and which is button two (back button)?

Has anyone tried to do something like this before? It looks easy enough.

I did a PC joystick to Tandy 1000 adapter a long time ago. I can't recall whether the button wires were colored differently inside the joystick, but if they are not, use a multimeter in continuity test mode to figure out which wire goes to which pin. Stick a metal wire or paperclip on the ground pin and another metal wire on the button pin, put each probe on one of those wires and push the button. If your meter makes noise, then you know which button goes to that pin. You have to open up the stick anyway and connect the third terminal of each potentiometer to ground : http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/201 ... stick.html

Does that apply to the CoCo as well?

EDIT: Ah yes, I see it does. Thanks for the tip: http://nerdlypleasures.blogspot.com/201 ... s-and.html
