Best serial mouse driver?
Best serial mouse driver?
Does anyone have a recommendation for the best serial mouse driver on a PCjr? I was able to pickup a PCjr to serial cable and then an adapter to go from 25pin to 9pin. Plus I was able to find the most ridiculous thing ever made; a serial mouse that is optical. It is supposed to be compatible with both the Microsoft serial mouse and the Mouse Systems serial mouse, so pretty standard stuff. Now, I just want to make sure before I bother plugging everything in that there's a mouse driver that works well with this kind of scenario. I am running DOS 2.11, but I would be willing to try and find a copy of DOS 3.3 if that is required by the driver.

Most ridiculous thing ever made? Hardly - these were quite common:
A mouse driver really should not care what version of DOS it is on. My MS Booster mouse (a bus mouse) worked on DOS 2.1. The Mouse Systems optical mouse (often seen being used with ColorPaint) could be used without a driver when used with ColorPaint and other programs. I would just try the driver - it's just a TSR.

I've been using CuteMouse as a mouse driver on my PCjr. I can pass parameters to it to tell it to use the COM 1 vector with IRQ 3, and then I don't even have to use ComSwap!

Ah, but this one is still in production and it works just like a modern optical mouse without any special requirements...

Plus, it is decently cheap as well. So, I'm still cool... even if I do like to make broad, dramatic statements that may or may not be based on fact.
I'll give the cutemouse driver a run and see how it works. Thanks for the tip.

It's a *new* mouse that does serial! Ok, I'll roll over .. that is fun! (I'm tempted to get one myself.)
