Power Expansion Sidecar, how to use?

I've purchased a pair of sidecars from a friend and one of them is the power attachment. I'm not sure about how it works; once attached, do I need two power bricks to power both sidecar and internal power card at the same time?, only the expansion needs a power brick?, if so, can I unplug the internal power card and leave only the PCjr working with the power expansion?

If I remember what I've read correctly, the Power Expansion sidecar can only provide supplemental power. It is not enough for the whole system. Therefore, you need two power bricks.

Ouch, so seems pretty useless for me. Having two power bricks around the Jr is not really my cup of tea . I need to adapt a picoPSU internally right now.
