The conrtoller board was definatly modified already , although what technique I cannot say but many non original wires have been soldered. The data cable is split to the 5.25inch drive then continues with a separate power lead to the external 3.5 inch drive. That drive does spin but I can't get it to read anything. And if I unhook the 5.25 " drive I just get a error H on bootup.

I was wondering if anyone coudl figure out how to get the 3.5 inch drive to work.

Hmm, that's interesting. When I did my own modification, I had to use a cable without a twist in it, so I'm not sure how your modification was done. Of course, that meant I had to jumper one drive as drive 1, and the other as drive 2. EDIT: Er, drive 0 and drive 1, more likely.
