BASIC SCREEN command

Postby Vorticon » Sun Dec 06, 2009 9:17 pm

Hi.
I noticed that when JRconfig is running, I am unable to access the high resolution SCREEN modes such as mode 6 for example under Cartridge BASIC. Is that a known issue and is there a solution to it?

Take a look at the docs for Jrconfig. You might not have left enough memory for the expanded memory modes. The normal CGA modes take 16K while the PCjr specific modes take 32KB. I think the /v switch is what you are looking for.

Well that did not work... Is cartridge Basic compatible with JrConfig?

Cartridge BASIC is definitely compatible with Jrconfig, so that is not the problem.

Cartridge BASIC has some known bugs when running on a machine with extra memory. I remember that on my PCjr with the Microsoft Booster they included a program called jrbasic.com that would do some sort of addressing fixup to allow Cartridge BASIC to work. JrBasic checks for the MS Booster, so unless you have one that is not going to work.

Then again, there was another version that IBM had on it's BBS. There is a mirror copy here:

Look for jrbasic.zip. And if it works, post here to let me know and I'll post it.

I tried jrbasic.com and it locks up the computer. Too bad...

Try this instead:

http://brutman.com/PCjr/downloads/pcjrxtra.zip

It's a device driver that fixes some incompatibilities. It claims to allow Cartridge BASIC to run on a machine with expanded memory.

Nope. That does not seem to work either. All I get is a corrupted screen and a hung system. I tried the driver by itself as well as along with jrconfig with similar results...
