GEM or CP/M on a Jr?
Does anyone know if Digital Research's GEM or CP/M will run on a PCjr?
Re: GEM or CP/M on a Jr?
I kind of doubt CP/M would, but I've run the DOS version of GEM without much issue. Windows 3.0 will also run if you have enough RAM installed.

I use GEM regularly for its file management operations as well as some word processing. Works great!

Well, IBM did sell CP/M-86 for the original IBM PC. Would that not work?

Does GEM support the 16 color PCjr graphics modes, or are you stuck with the 4 color standard CGA modes?Vorticon wrote:I use GEM regularly for its file management operations as well as some word processing. Works great!
Re: GEM or CP/M on a Jr?
I manually checked GEM 2.0 and 3.0 and did not see any support for PCjr or Tandy video modes. (I did discover, however, that GEM 3.0 supports an interesting THE GENIUS Monitor / THE GENIUS Monitor Card combo for a resolution of 728x1008 (!) I'm guessing this is a pageview monitor.)
Checking John Elliot's excellent pages, I see that http://www.seasip.info/Gem/Drivers/video.html lists a Tandy 1000 driver, but it appears no different than the CGA 640x200 driver.

You're all insane and trying to steal my magic bag!

I'm sure an enterprising individual could write a device driver to support the VDI for the PCjr if so inclined. No, I have no desire.

Actually it only works in monochrome (black text on white background)... Very much reminiscent of the early Mac OS.Meknapp wrote:Does GEM support the 16 color PCjr graphics modes, or are you stuck with the 4 color standard CGA modes?Vorticon wrote:I use GEM regularly for its file management operations as well as some word processing. What about ViewMax? That was basically the color version of GEM that shipped with later versions of DR DOS. Is anyone using that? DR DOS seems to be easier to get your hands on than GEM.

There are a whole bunch of GEM versions up for download here:OldComputerGuy wrote:What about ViewMax? That was basically the color version of GEM that shipped with later versions of DR DOS. Is anyone using that? DR DOS seems to be easier to get your hands on than GEM.
