$300 for 25 pairs is an awful lot, even splitting it half is still too much IMO. I could go in for a $50 share, maybe there are 4 others willing to do the same?

I'm happy to bankroll for this too. I don't need any more sidecars, but the project is worth supporting at any cost.

I don't think I would go in for $50, but I'd definitely do $25 for two pairs.

Does anyone if there are any jrIDE boards built, and if so, how many? I badly want a jrIDE but i have this inexplicably dead Memory Expansion that would serve perfectly for a donor connector.

I'm out of boards. Work has been super busy, however as of this Friday I'm looking for a new job (quit). I was also looking for a source of connectors as removing them cleanly from old boards is very difficult.

If we do the through hole design again, I'm certainly not interested in building them for folks. I didn't expect 95% of the orders to want assembly and individually soldering 10,000 holes (truly) cured me of PTH soldering like a father forcing his 'got caught smoking' son to chain smoke 10 cigars. So if just reused the same design for round 2, I would be happy to front and kit 25 of them, but no assembly option.

If we went to SMT, I could screen and solder them up easy enough. Do we want to change the design at this point? What other features would people want?

If you go the SMT route and soldering is not required of the end user, then I would suggest a Compact Flash adapter on the end of the board.

I'd be happy just to get a bare PCB board, as I can source most of the parts out of my stash or locally.

I have 25 sets of sidecar connectors on order that should be here (I'm told) in 2-3 weeks. They did send samples of each, so I'm encouraged.

My hope is that we can get enough parts together for some more JRide boards. Can we still get the PTH boards made in a small quantity for a reasonable price? I don't mind soldering up my own board, but I'm with Alan - the thought of doing a bunch of these on an "assembly line" is not a pleasant thought.

I'm not sure my soldering skills are up to being able to plant smt parts on a board. A VGA video card project I bought needs a large smt chip soldered and I still haven't worked up the nerve to try it.

I'm not a EE/hardware type but I do enjoy the process/challenge of building my own boards. Going to SMT would end that for me on this particular board.
