Cassette Cable - Aux Out Only

The Official IBM Cassette Adapter Cable has three audio jacks for a tape cassette recorder, one minijack for the Ear or Headphone jack, one microjack for the Remote jack and a second minijack for the Aux jack. My modern tape cassette recorder only has a Ear, Rem and Mic jack. Mic jacks require a much weaker audio signal than the Aux jack. Do I risk destroying my recorder if I use the official cable?
