Windows 3.1 on Jr

Anyone ever tried to get A version of Win.3.x running on the Jr
Using the JR-IDE ???

I think it required a 386 or higher because it used modes that were introduced with that chip.

Windows 3.1 requires a 286 actually. Windows 3.0 will run on a PCjr but not well. It ran in 16 colors with a modified special video driver, likely a modified Tandy driver

Yes I was looking at 3.0, but I think the effort would be more than the benefit... still may try it...

i tried Windows 3.0 on an IBM PS/2 model 30 8086 (8 Mhz). It ran but not well.

Getting Windows 1.x, 2.x, or 3.x running on an 808x system is possible, but isn't useful. The lack of speed and lack of usable applications makes it a curiosity only.

Every time someone mentions Windows on an 808x system, I'm obligated to mention Geoworks Ensemble, which works amazingly well on any 808x system and higher. All you need is a hard drive, and you get full WYSIWYG applications, resolution-independent text and graphics, a motif-like environment, and still retain the ability to task-switch between DOS applications. winworldpc has links to Geoworks Ensemble 1.x and 2.x.

Yes Win 3 is just that, a curiosity at best..... we are here to get the Jr working like a Pentium (grin) and so,happy then Pacman runs in 16 colors... :) again...
