ERROR H !

HI all...

I have two (2) PCjr's both giving me the same error ....

The dreaded ERROR H - which I understand involves the disk drive or the disk drive controller card.

I've taken everything out; cleaned everything - reseated everything...and still ERROR H.

When I take the controller card OUT, the error goes away and it will boot directly into BASIC.

This is killing me. Any thoughts or links to threads where this issue was addressed and fixed???

Thanks so much.

Tim L.

When you write "cleaned everything", what did you do? Cleaning the heads isn't enough; you also need to clean and lube/grease the drive rails to ensure the heads can move smoothly.

The drive belt may be slipping or gooey; check the belt and make it spin under flourescent lighting so you can see the rotating grid pattern "freeze" to verify it's at the correct speed.

You can narrow down the issue by going into the advanced diagnostics (CTRL-ALT-INS) and then following the diskette procedures here: ftp://ftp.oldskool.org/pub/drivers/IBM/ ... ervice.pdf
Physical page 131, or page "Diskette Drive 3-600-1".

I gave myself error H last night ... I disconnected the power cable to the floppy drive and forgot about it.

It's not a great error, as it covers a lot of things. Besides looking at the cabling between the controller card and the floppy drive, also check the power cable.
